Opportunity knocks for FIs that migrate routine branch deposits to remote deposit capture for small businesses.

However, at least 3 things typically stand in the way at most financial institutions for SMB RDC:

  1. A focus on larger SMBs. Banks neglect to sell the majority (84%) of SMBs with revenues less than US$1 million, focusing mainly or exclusively on the 16% with higher annual revenues, perceiving them to be a more attractive business opportunity.

2.    Selective eligibility. Banks underutilize branch resources for a variety of reasons.

3.    Expensive products. RDC products historically offered to small businesses were too complex and expensive.
